Real Estate on the Front Lines: Recognizing & Preventing Human Trafficking

As an international gateway and host to some of the world’s largest sporting, cultural and tourism events, Miami occupies a unique position in the fight against human trafficking. Florida ranks third in the nation for reported human trafficking cases, underscoring the importance of awareness and prevention in a region that welcomes millions of visitors each year.

CREW Miami, in partnership with Marsh, will host an educational workshop on Wednesday, Oct. 14, at 8:30 a.m. at Marsh’s offices at 830 Brickell examining the intersection of human trafficking and commercial real estate and what the professionals who own, operate, manage and insure properties should know.

Bringing together perspectives from advocacy, federal law enforcement, tourism and risk management, the panel will explore how trafficking manifests in South Florida; the risks surrounding major events and transient populations; how trafficking can intersect with hotels, multifamily communities, short-term rentals and other properties; and how CRE professionals can recognize warning signs and respond appropriately.

Designed for owners, operators, property managers, investors, brokers and other CRE professionals, the workshop will move beyond awareness to focus on risk, recognition and responsibility and how Miami’s real estate community can be part of the solution.
